OUTREACH COORDINATOR, Media Laboratory-Center for Future Civic Media (C4FCM), to join a cross-disciplinary research center that is developing new technologies to support communities and foster civic journalism and political action. Will manage relationships and coordinate activities between the center and its community partners using web-based social networks and software as well as traditional communications tools. Responsibilities include serving as a liaison between center research staff and collaborators in partner communities by increasing knowledge and use of projects in partner communities and by the public and relaying feedback to development teams; coordinating field testing and deployment of center projects in partner communities; arranging demonstrations of center work for both internal and external sponsors and partners; identifying and creating opportunities for collaboration and mutual inspiration between the center and other innovators in the field of civic media; and handling other duties as requested.

REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor’s degree; strong background in new media technologies and community-based initiatives; strong interpersonal and communication skills; at least two years of relevant experience working with nonprofit or community organizations, technology research, and new media initiatives; ability to work effectively with many types of people, ranging from university students to corporate sponsors to community activists; and an interest in and strong understanding of policy, social science, and technological issues.
