Civics Beyond Borders | MIT Center for Civic Media

Tuesday, June 25, 2013 - 9:00am

In a world of ever-increasing human migration, we can no longer pretend that civic action is neatly contained within the boundaries of the nation-state. Civics Beyond Borders explores transnational citizenship in the Brazilian diaspora, online organizing for immigration reform by undocumented youth, artistic interventions along the U.S./Mexico border inside the Tohono O'Odham Nation, and immigrant integration in the New South.

  • Sasha Costanza-Chock (moderator), assistant professor of Civic Media, MIT Comparative Media Studies & Center for Civic Media
  • Alvaro Lima, research director, Boston Redevelopment Authority
  • Celso Mireles, online strategy coordinator, United We Dream
  • Ofelia Rivas, artist, Tohono O'Odham Nation
