Civic Media Lunch: "Allied Media Projects: Building a Media-Based Economy in Detroit"

RSVP required below to get food.
Detroit is what the rest of the world has to look forward to. In Detroit, Allied Media Projects are growing a community of media makers, culture producers, technologists, and small business owners who are building a media-based economy at the city's grassroots. AMP believes that instead of trying to "bridge the digital divide" between our communities and existing technology, it is more important to reshape technology to meet our communities' needs.
Join the Allied Media Projects staff and the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition members, Janel Yamashiro, Diana J. Nucera, and Nina Bianchi to discuss theories and practices of building just, creative and collaborative cities, with a focus on the role of artists and technologists. They will share lessons from their experience teaching people how to teach, as well as how to learn; to be entrepreneurs, and not just consumers; to build their own communications networks that match to the social networks in their neighborhoods, and use media and technology to actualize the visions of the future of our communities.
They invite discussion about what the rest of the world can learn from Detroit and what they can learn from you.
